Joseph L. Schmitt NEWPORT NEWS - Joseph L. Schmitt, 46, passed away Sunday June 24, 2007. He enjoyed a career as a machinists mate before retiring from the Navy. Joe was a police officer, serving with the Newport News-Williamsburg International Airport. An antique car enthusiast, Joe loved his show trucks and was an award winning member of the Chevy Lovers Car Club. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph A. Schmitt; and leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 25 years, Connie Lee Schmitt; daughter, Heather Nicole Schmitt; mother, Jean T. Schmitt; sisters, MaryJo Strait and her husband, Gary of Vermont, Nancy Geer of New York; many nieces and nephews and a special friend, Lynda Hixson. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2007, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home with the Rev. Henry Nichols officiating. Full military honors will be rendered. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Friends are encouraged to visit www.mem.com to share words of comfort with the family. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton.
